About the Festival

Army Film Festival was founded in 2025 as a project reminding audiences of the value of freedom and its defence in Czech history and the present day. The festival places a strong emphasis on education, featuring debates with filmmakers and historians, special morning school screenings, and a range of educational programmes. An essential part of the festival — alongside documentary and feature film screenings with panel discussions involving creators, experts, soldiers and eyewitnesses — is the live recording of podcasts with popular hosts.

Looking Back at the 1st Edition

During the first edition, we screened 28 films for our audience. The themes of individual films became the subject of debates featuring former Minister of Defence Vlasta Parkanová, veterans of Czech missions such as Miroslav Lidinský, the British military attaché in the Czech Republic, historians from the Military History Institute, and filmmakers from both the Czech Republic and abroad.

Festival-goers had the opportunity to attend live podcast recordings of Padni komu padni (Reflex), Zlámaný Topol (Lenka Zlámalová, E15), and Maciej Ruczaj's podcast (ECHO 24).

Fully packed morning school screenings dedicated to Czech military missions abroad were complemented by discussions with veterans who participated directly in those missions.

The festival had a particular impact on younger generations, helping them understand that defending freedom and the republic is a national interest and a duty of every citizen — a national self-sufficiency that truly matters.
